Water efficiency is often neglected - especially by people who live in the Great Lakes Basin (home to 22% of the world's freshwater supply). My favorite low hanging fruit for water efficiency is the new generation of high efficiency shower heads and toilets and WaterSense or Energy Star rated appliances. A high efficiency showerhead uses less than 1.8 gallons of water per minute. Most newer showerheads use 2.5 gpm. We use a Bricor 1.5 gpm model, the same as is used in Cesar's Palace in Las Vegas. So, a family of 3 would save about 11,000 gallons of HOT water per year. Ideally, all homes would have gray water reuse systems and rainwater catchment systems. There's some great posts if you search on "water" on the www.Greenovation.TV homepage.
